Parrot Bebop 2: photography without secrets

There are 3 types of “photo mode” in the Bebop2’s settings:

– JPEG SNAP: it takes a screenshot of the video stream at a 1920×1080 pixels resolution. The image quality is not so good because of the video image stabilization that tends to remove sharpness and accentuate edges. What you get is what you see.

Aqueduct

– DNG(RAW) : This mode takes a raw picture at 4096×3072 pixels resolution in a DNG format. To use this picture you have to use softwares like Photoshop or Lightroom. What you get is NOT what you see.

– JPEG 180°: it takes a fish eye shot at a 4096×3072 pixels resolution..the same as DNG, but there are small editing possibilities.

– JPEG : it takes a fish eye shot at a 4096×3072 pixels resolution…but its fisheye’s distortion is not completely correctedWhat you see is SIMILAR to what you get.

With some work on Lightroom we can adjust the DNG:

Here is the steps:

scr5

Important step: the crop. Here we loose a lot of pixels because we have to obtain a horizontal picture from a vertical one.

scr2
scr4
scr3

I wonder because the format of DNG in vertical and not horizontal…like others camera..i.e. a Gopro.

Here there are other samples of the various format of the Bebop 2’s camera. I took the pictures from various distance because “what you see on the display” is very different from “what the drone sees”.

JPG SNAP ( the part of the house that we see it’s very different from the on of the JPG above!! )

On my opinion the best solution to take home a good photo from the Bebop2 is to snap with all the different “photo mode”. As you can see sometime there is a very big different from what you see on video and what the drone sees…

Photo of the day

My last picture is “Photo of the day” on http://www.maxartis.com.

Raindrops keep falling on my .. puddle!

After a rainy day I often take my camera and I take a walk on the streets/squares of my city: I like to take photos of reflections from puddles. To achieve a good result I use a wide angle lens and I put the camera at ground level ( better if the camera has a tilting display ) but it’s not enough! To obtain a different picture ( from other millions of the same type ) we need some fantasy : in my example a friend that helped me to have a drop in the puddle….

I think that the second one is better…do you agree?

Geometric aerial photographs

I found a new kind of photograph: aerial photography. Of course I have seen a lot of that genre of photos, but I have never practiced it. But now I have a drone…and so…go ahead to discover this new universe!!

As a first step I’I started to looking for geometric figures ( and not landscape at now ):

…and of course, there also has to be a video!!

My first ( and last? ) drone.

Ok, now I have a drone. I’ll stop with “traditional” photography??

Not at all! I think this is a very good tool to have a different point of view 🙂 and, as you know, in photography is very important change the way we are shooting.

Now I’ll be in search of a good landscape to shot from the sky. This is my first video: the countryside of the city of Lucca, we are in the famous so-called “wine and oil road” in Tuscany.

Follow ( interesting ) people..

..in effect..I didn’t follow that guy..because he was sat down at the corner. We can say that I followed his behavior: he was in the backlight, he was smoking…and there were lines of light toward him: a very good photographic scene.

So I took my little Sony RX100M3 ( a very little, but powerful camera ) and I waited for the right moment: a little smoke from his mouth.. here is a good photo: a profile made of light, geometric lines…and a little point of interest: the smoke.
Other important notes: only in the morning there is this type of light..the sun is low on the horizon ( so we have long shadows ) … there are few people on the street.. I had a little camera so the subject didn’t notice me 🙂 🙂
