Parrot Bebop 2: photography without secrets

There are 3 types of “photo mode” in the Bebop2’s settings:

– JPEG SNAP: it takes a screenshot of the video stream at a 1920×1080 pixels resolution. The image quality is not so good because of the video image stabilization that tends to remove sharpness and accentuate edges. What you get is what you see.

Aqueduct

– DNG(RAW) : This mode takes a raw picture at 4096×3072 pixels resolution in a DNG format. To use this picture you have to use softwares like Photoshop or Lightroom. What you get is NOT what you see.

– JPEG 180°: it takes a fish eye shot at a 4096×3072 pixels resolution..the same as DNG, but there are small editing possibilities.

With some work on Lightroom we can adjust the DNG:

Important step: the crop. Here we loose a lot of pixels because we have to obtain a horizontal picture from a vertical one.

I wonder because the format of DNG in vertical and not horizontal…like others camera..i.e. a Gopro.

Here there are other samples of the various format of the Bebop 2’s camera. I took the pictures from various distance because “what you see on the display” is very different from “what the drone sees”.

On my opinion the best solution to take home a good photo from the Bebop2 is to snap with all the different “photo mode”. As you can see sometime there is a very big different from what you see on video and what the drone sees…
